Why should only GC holders get this 'permission'? F1, J1, L1 and H1 people should also be able to get their parents. Also, add all their dependents, H4, L4(??) whatever. We can all live as a big family then. Or, just pack up and go back to India.
Its ridiculous to hear people saying that they like to live in the US because of human values here, but then talk about Indian values. Please make up your mind. It's not just my family, my siblings, my whatever..... Think outside 'your' little world.

I am really shocked to see that several of us in our community are still ignorant about the magnamity of the Green card situation.
Just this morning, I was talking to one my friend urging him to participate actively in the IV efforts and the answer I got was, "What for? , now that my I-485 is filed, I should get my greencard in a year." His PD is April 2006.

The election results are ultimately good for us and our prospects for immigration reform in the new year. Despite the best efforts of our friends on the other side of this issue, immigration did not become a major issue in this election. No candidate won or lost because of their position on immigration alone. This is partially due to the fact that the president has recently signed the bill to build a wall on the southern border. With such a clear, physical, image of immigration enforcement in place, no reasonable candidate could ask for a more strict immigration law.
The president has argues for CIR since his campaign in 2000. We know that our specific issues have strong support amongst both parties as evidenced by the fact that many or our requests were placed in the Senate immigration bill and passed without debate.
At this point, The President and Congress will want to pass any laws that they can agree on - particularly if both sides can claim it as a victory for their core values.
Nancy Pelosi is my representative here in San Francisco and I have spoken with her immigration field reps. a number of times. Sorry to hear this. Regarding medical insurance, your company has to offer you COBRA..you will end up paying almost twice the premium that you have been paying so far, but it would still be better than you footing the delivery charges (10k - 25K). Continue CORBA atleast till the deliver and post-partum - for as long as possible..
Terminating you in your ninth month pregnancy is probably against the law, i think if you can prove it, you might be able to sue your employer, check your local state laws..

When adding my wife to my medical coverage provided by my employer, my wife was pregnent, I did a bit of reading up, most of the group insurance policies offered by employers does not consider pregnancy as pre-exisitng condition. That is the major benefit of group insurance policies. If your husband is working in the west, Kaiser
is the way to go!
As mentioned in the above post, employer should offer CORBA, which can be your backup.

2. How many consulting companies do you know do charge their candidates for filing H1 ? I haven't come accross any. It is illegal to do that. If someone is doing that, ICE is after them.

As if things weren't enough complex, today my friend told me one more thing about finger prints. His PD is 2004 Sep EB2, so he called USCIS to know the status of his application. Then they told him that his finger prints got expired (as per them they expire after every 15 months). So they will invoke the notice to get him an appointment for finger prints. They also mentioned if finger prints have expired then they can't process the application unless it gets renewed.
Although this is first hand information, I was very surprised and not sure whether or not to believe the information given by USCIS call center.

When you are changing status within the country, they will want to make sure you maintained previous status, so paystubs will most likely be required. An option you may want to consider is visa autorevalidation in Mexico/Canada.

Remember when a visa is a stamp in the passport, which allows you to enter the country. The i-94 tells you how long you can stay in the country. When you fill in a i-539 it is an Application To Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status. Not a visa and the reason why you cannot use it to come back into the country

This is like the banana joke in an old tamil movie, it is over 157 days and the USCIS now wants to go by processing times which mention july 3rd processing date, which is still late, but then they will say it is just one day over your receipt date.
If I were planning to use my EAD now or in the near future I would just cough up $380 and apply for a fresh EAD instead of chasing USCIS.
If it works, then it is money well spent compared to running back and forth to USCIS offices, calling them daily and all the painful aggravation involved.
I will gladly spend 380 instead of risking the possiblity of picking up Diabetes or Blood pressure due to stress.

I respectfully disagree, he is the president of USA and to its citizens, you might morally/personally declare him to be your president, but as long as your passport is not from USA you my friend are an alien (not extraterrestrial) living in the US of A :), please dont take this personally I am in the US too, and I got my passport recently renewed, and I had to pledge my allegiance in order to get my passport. IV members have saved all of us a lot of money on attorney phone calls, getting answers to medical test questions and other general questions. Please contribute to IV so that we can keep this effort going. While everybody is busy collecting documents and paperwork for 485, core IV again is doing their personal paperwork and + lobbying.

kudos to what u accomplished in July 2007, but the reality is we haven't seen any major action after that. I guess its mostly frustration from ppl here, who think that the US housing/EB crisis can be pursued aggressively than expecting for CIR to happen.

In fact, one can be working at Employer B and can claim AC-21 for Employer C as a future job.

I was not planning to change company and just filed my 485 without EAD last week. But now situation has changed and the lawyer said i need EAD if i want to use AC21 after 6 months. I'm hoping to get a receipt notice soon so that i can file for EAD without the increased fees. Anybody has any link to where it says we don't need EAD for AC21 so i can check with my lawyer?

Do we really need to pay NRI Fees in Schools or colleges with PIO card? I thought otherwise. This does apply to an OCI card holder as well?
