I was thinking could Arn not give out a paid subscription to the forums for a year say when you hit milestones of 250,000 points or so?
Budget is around AUS$800-1000, and I will be getting most of the parts in 3 to 4 months unless there is new tech coming not to long after it?

it depends if you want to go intel or amd. also, you have to consider that the new GPU client is coming eventually, which should help ATI video cards greatly

i can't believe all the paranoia on this thread.
first of all, if it is simply an RFID Reader, then it doesn't broadcast crap about you. it senses an RFID Tag in proximity to your reader and reads the tag. software on the device then utilizes that tags info for some purpose.
secondly, if there is a tag in the device (iphone/ipod) then you'd have to be in proximity of a reader for it to be sensed and read. i would imagine that for privacy reasons a tag could be disabled dynamically by the user. or maybe even the device alerts the user that a reader is attempting to read its RFID and asks how the user would like to handle the situation.
lastly, anyone who is even remotely paranoid about such a technology coming to the iPhone/iPod had better already be on a cash basis, own no cell phone, not have internet access in their home or use it anywhere else, have no bank accounts whatsoever, not be a member of any clubs or enrolled in school, or be employed anywhere.
believe me, 99% of people are already engaging in enough activities that if big brother or big business wanted to know something about you, they'd have no problem finding it.

I was gonna come to the Regent Street store, but I didn't have enough time, so I went to the Kingston Bentall Centre store instead. Got there at 6 but the queue only took 5 minutes and I easily managed to get a t-shirt. When I left at 7 there was still loads more t-shirts, but it had got pretty quiet outside, so I went back in and got another t-shirt. :D

I picked up a 16GB yesterday for $299 and after using it last night I decided I should get another one so my wife and I aren't fighting over just one :). I ran out this morning and all the 16GB are gone so I picked up a 32GB for $399. The problem now is I still have an iPad2 on order from Apple due mid-April. I'm considering canceling the iPad2 and being content with the 2 first gen iPads.
I think these are perfectly fine and I'm sure there will be another revision next year. The only thing that would have tilted the scales for me to hold out for the iPad2 is if it had a higher resolution screen. The cameras do nothing for me and the weight and thickness I don't think will make much of a difference when just using it around the house.
Is that what others who are still buying the 1st gen are thinking too?

That will make it the ultimate presentation tool with a huge halo effect on corporate, education and domestic markets:
1. Make presentation on Mac or PC with Keynote or Powerpoint.
2. Save the presentation to the iPhone.
3. Use the iPhone as a wireless computerless presentation remote.

Uhh.. yea. I think the moral of the story, as exhibited here on this thread, is that some things are best left neutral.
An old saying in sales is that there are two things you NEVER discuss with a potential customer: Politics and Religion.
The reason is simply because many people have their own beliefs and views, and in the case of religion and politics, they are often very strong views, which they will defend militantly.
I personally don't care, or am the slightest bit offended, if someone wishes me a 'Merry Christmas', a 'Happy Kwanzaa', a 'Jovial Hog Raping Day', or any of the probably hundreds of 'holidays' that exist throughout the year.
For the purposes of selling Macs to people, I think it's best to simply say 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas! Vote Republican!'

I'm a bit confused, because, I can't update the EFI ... I strictly followed the instructions. Poweron while holding the power button... then some secondes after speed flashs of the led (I mean stroboscopic) and then just a long BIIIIIP and normal boot after that ...

Called 2 local stores...on the second one, they were literally ringing up the last 3 they had (16GB)...however, she called her district manager who was heading down to her store from one further north (about 65 miles away) that had 8 left. The manager is bringing 2 down with him on his way. Those 2 WILL be picked up by me after work!

I just bought a 16gb here in San Antonio a few hours ago. My first iPad and I absolutely love it. However I just spotted a dead pixel. Guess I'll make a trip to the apple store tomorrow. They should be able to replace it, right?

Even after that comparison of Apple's products to Windows', I'd still buy Apple.
Don't tell me that I'm wasting my money just because I can easily afford to purchase a Mac. Most of the people that talk crap about Macs are the ones that can't afford them, so of course they're going to talk bad about them.
I don't think anyone is stating that. I myself prefer buying an apple products when they fit my needs. I won't blindly buy one just because it has the apple logo though.
The sum of the parts, hardware+software usually make apple products a great solution.
Many people find windows based PCs to be an acceptable product and at a fraction of a cost, its a no brainer for many people.
I disagree with the luxury vs cheap car analogy. I built a core i7 that exceeds what apple provides and its much more "luxury" then a junker car. It looks great because the case I chose, it performs awesome and the cost was 1,500 less the comparable mac pro. I opted to turn the computer into a hackintosh because I do prefer OSX over windows.
BTW, to clarify my earlier remarks, I've purchased a mac mini, MacBook Pro and I've built out a core i7. I buy apple when it makes sense and build when I think thats a better option.
