I and my wife are debating whether to apply OCI or PIO card for our son who was born in US and has a US passport. We both hold Indian passport.
Can you experts please suggest which is the better route? The Indian consulate phone number is of not much help. It just keeps going in infinite loop and does not connect to a real person.
To best of my knowledge, at least one parent must have US citizenship to get OCI ( the rules were different earlier - may be 3-4 years back ).

1) You have NO idea what it was like to find a lobbyist ready to work with us given a) We are dealing with a very sensitive issue b) We had only 10K in cash (5K raised by core members) and another 10K promised again by the core team. Do a real exercise and get a lobbyist to sign a contract with you for after revealing to them that you have only 20K. Try it now with even 50K and see how many lobbyists are ready to tow your line
2) Regarding your talk of Erin Brockovich and all, you do not even seem to grasp the fact that AILA is interested in the 11 million undocument workers. 500,000 skilled workers are nothing but a drop in the ocean compared to them.
In any case, have you done your part in contacting AILA? We have! Its easy to sit on the fence and complain but it takes conviction to actually DO something

If I read you correctly, and if someone from IV does appear before congress, we should expect BEC mess/failure (PBEC in particular) also being brought to the attention of the lawmakers, not just the retrogression. Correct?

I am nearing the expiration of current EAD for both myself and my wife. I am pursuing all other options actively and they are work in progress.
USCIS expedite criteria met - no results for past 10 days
workig with congressman
sent to Ombudsman, they responsded that they are researching
took infopass, no help

As you have an urgent matter, you will need to expedite the process. The rules give government 60 days to respond under normal circumstances. To expedite, you will need to file a motion for preliminary injunction right after you file initial complaint. This way, you will get EAD in two weeks.

Just because OP steals office supplies ( his bad habit of shoplifting) he is accusing all immigraants. I take offence to that and when someone asks others to make a choice to marry a hooker or a shoplifter wife as a defence to that shoplifter. How crazy is that?

I have to respectfully disagree with the point 4 you have mentioned.
If a thug is attacking you, it is best to just obey what ever he is demanding. Under no circumstances, try to outsmart him. Us trying to outsmart a thug during a robbery will be like the thug trying to outsmart us in computer programming.
If a thug wants the car, just give him the keys and walk away. Insurance will pay us the price of the car - deductible. The same amount we will get, if we take our chance and destroy the car trying to outsmart the guy. And who knows, may be the 'thug' is a cousin of yours trying a prank on you. And in the dark, you could not really see his face.
Robbers charging your credit card is no big deal either. There are federal laws protecting us on incorrect credit card charges. Would you want to risk your life for just $50?
My prayers are with the family members.

3) If some stranger is approaching you, be cautious, no matter how 'friendly' he looks. Think fast and look for exit signs and plan an exit run, should the need arise.
4) I read long time ago, if in the worst case, say a carjacker who gained access inside your car and hiding in the back seat. And if you have not noticed anything and you just started the vehicle and are about to go, he puts a knife of gun and asks directs you to drive his way, then, JUST SPEED UP STRAIGHT AND HIT THE WALL OR PILAR AS FAST AS YOU CAN. The air bag would protect you after the collision, but the passenger(carjacker) would be thrown out or would have sever body injuries. You would have enough time to escape with minor injuries.
5) Take precautions and don't loiter in areas that you not familiar with.

I have been through this once. My company(a big one) lawyer said my position does not qualify for EB2. His main concern was salary was not enough. I got promoted to "Senior Software Engineer" and got into the required salary range. My labor and 140 were cleared. So my in my opinion salary range is also significant.

Well, I like you because you are just a straight shooter. If you are such a straight shooter then let me do some straight talk, so just catch this.
Your American mid-size company or Desi small size or super size company will get $180/hr but you will not get even $50/hr from the same client even when you go direct. So no matter how "highly-skilled" you think you are, your non-compete argument is not good enough for you not to be able directly market yourself, because there are gazillion other companies using BI, Cognos, BO, Informatica, Datastage and every similar crap. You can impress a few people by naming some technologies that maybe hot but they don't mean a &hit if you market them yourself. Here is why. A lot of people blame the lack of GC as a reason to be exploited. That is part of the problem. The other part of the problem is that most hiring managers in large companies get commission from these small, mid-size or large American, Desi or European consulting companies. That's why in most cases they always hire through one of these companies. They will not hire directly because the manager thinks you to be a stingy desi, and if he hires you directly the hiring manager will not see a dime, so why will he hire you directly? This is a big cycle of corruption and everybody is part of it including lawmakers who get contributions from lobbyist/representatives of these small, mid and large size companies. You think lawmakers don't know what is going on? You think client doesn't know that you make 85K when the middle company get $180/hr? You think the big-bosses at the company/client doesn't know that the hiring managers are getting favors from middle companies? You think lawmakers doesn't know that immigrant worker waiting for long delayed GC is bonded to an employer that buys employee retention insurance policy for the employer? They all know it. But you see every player in this movie, you, your hiring boss at the client site, the middle company, the lobbyist, the lawmaker and many more, they are all being paid from that $180/hr which you think that you are entitled for because you know Oracle BI and Congnos. Look at the aveage compansation for any area.
Assess your expertise ( not to compare with you the guy sitting next to you)
Try to move up in the ladder
Keep updating your tech skill
Diversify to more ( but related ) skill.
Add niche like PMP / Six Sigma.
Top of all , little bit of Luck , to be right place at the right time .

After reading your post, I just called the ICICI customer support and checked with them. They told me that I cannot get anything from my ICICI NRO account unless otherwise it is for education or for medical purpose.
I am not sure how you got your money from ICICI. May be you had put USD and got it back sometime later. Have you tried to bring back INR from ICICI account? If yes, let me know what you did.
As I mentioned in my post, I had a resident Indian A/C - account that was opened when I was legally a resident Indian (salary a/c incidentally). No way it can be confused with one of N/RE/O accounts. I had INR in my account. It was wired over to my account here in the US, I got $s. Simple. If you look through the link that I posted, ICICI's instructions are quite clear - you can say family maintenance as a good reason.
As a couple of people commented in subsequent posts, it is straightforward to send money, INR to $.

We applied for my wife EAD/AP on June 7, 2010 (E-file)
Her EAD was approved in few weeks back but there is nothing on her AP.
Her LUD change was on 6/11/2010 when they issued the receipt.
We called USCIS and initiated SR. Still no change in LUD.
Infopass is not a great option for us (3 hour drive one way). Any help is appriciated.
(We used to have POJ trick for calling NSC IO directly,

Applied for AP on June 1 at NSC. NO LUD changes till about last week.
I contacted USCIS and had an expedite request put in. Worked with USCIS ombudsman to figure out what was happening. Worked with my State Senator's office to put some heat on USCIS. After all the above efforts, finally got mine & My spouse's AP approved yesterday.(Oct 13). Total of 134 long days since i applied for my AP.
NSC is notorious for being late and lackadaiscal. I advice ppl to step in and take your cases to Ombudsman & Senators. They tend to be lot more helpful than USCIS. Good luck
I contacted USCIS and had an expedite request put in. Worked with USCIS ombudsman to figure out what was happening. Worked with my State Senator's office to put some heat on USCIS. After all the above efforts, finally got mine & My spouse's AP approved yesterday.(Oct 13). Total of 134 long days since i applied for my AP.

We all are aware of the phenomenal progress that IV has achieved in just 3 months. Like any grassroots organization our success is dependent on the wholehearted support we get from our members.
The road is long and hard. I am sure all our hard work is going to pay off. This is not the time to get impatient or frustrated. Remember we are all in this together. Let's be patient and wait for things to unfold.

As per the state dept folks, pretty much all categories are using all their allocated numbers. So where is the spill over going to come from?
country quota will not impact I and C once the dates are current for ROW due to the spillover. If the number of applications pending is, say 100K and 95 K out of that are I and C. And assume 10K applications from ROW are add to the queue, what I am saying is all 110K will be cleared by end of the fiscal year.

Lets not hope for results just act. If Gandhi could drive Britishers out of India using this approach, USCIS is also made of human people and sure they will do something to lessen our pains.
The British were a bit smarter;). Here we have problems explaining to the average American (which include the officials of our Senators and Congressmen), the difference between h1B and Green card. Everytime I send a fax to the Senator regarding the Green Card, i get a reply about how they do or do not support H1Bs.
In this whole flower sending campaign, we want the message to be LOUD AND CLEAR. Gandhigiri alone did not drive the British out of India and even if it did, let us not forget in that case the British were on Indian soil, here we are doing Gandhigiri in another country ON THEIR SOIL!!
