Which state are we talking about here?
New DL renewal Procedure is a painful process which started August 1, 2006.
The process involves;
1. Visiting a DMV office and they will ask for your documents and give you a case number which you will present to MVI.
2. MVI will investigate your immigration status with USCIS and you will receive a letter after 5-7 days. If there is a problem, it will take upto 9 weeks. This means, you cannot drive until they have verified your legal status in the US.
This is a new procedure and I know a couple of friends who currently cannot drive because they cannot renew their license.
At first, DMV branches were unaware of this new procedure.
Has anyone been through this new process and successfully pass through MVI and renewed their license or is anyone waiting for the letter from MVI for more than 7 days.

Yes, I am also in the same boat. Filed my 9th year extension in March, responded RFE during 1st week of August. Mine will be expiring in 3 more days. Hoping to get the extension soon.

Is there any way to know whether our case is already preadjudicated or not? Is it OK to call USCIS customer service number or taking an infopass appointment for just checking that?
I just want to have some peace of mind as USCIS is not require (hopefully :)) any documents from our side, if they already preadjudicated us.
Please share your experience....

Firstly I am not from India where most of your guys come from. Instead from Taiwan 2 and half year ago. As travelled much between Asia countrys, no much time staying is US office although I based here. Yes, my English is poor and broken but this is not a fake story, make no sense for me. Just kill the time???
When cops knock out your room, handcuff your hands on the back, force you stay down at the corner , if you could keep calm and state very clearly. I can only show my respect but unfortunately I did not make it. This is my first time. :( Should be the last time either.
Now the negative point is mostly from my statement, no matter whether you believe, the attorney told me drag with anger is battery. we think that's okay does not mean it is okay on the law. So I wish you guys be careful on this kind of play around to avoid any trouble. I knew you all have better english than me. so you could explain clearly :) But Same level, do it on your spouse is even worse on a stranger.
I create this thread just wish listen your opinion and try public view how much chance I can win the jury trail. Some of your advice is really helpful and I will take them.
My wife is writing the mail to DA and wish it helpful to my case. I will have several rehearsal with my attorney in coming weeks. Anyway, we will fight for the justice and not accept that ridiculous battery charge.

No need to upset. This is a different type of question. I googled and researched on it for hours, how to suggest you. In fact I did not know several words and acronyms used here.
This is a situation because of cross-cultural differences, ignorence of law of land, weaker knowledge of English, etc. It might not have been aggrivated, had you been in your native country.
Once in Japan, I crossed rails to go to next platform and caught by police for doing so. I explained them my childhood, when every day I used to do so in small town and it was OK there. Police told me that they understand me, and asked me not to repeat again there.
My son asked for Samurai. On airport, the moment police saw it, they snatched it from me. They kept it under their possession and handed over to airlines to give me back at destination.
I feel that police and people are considerate to situation.
So, based on my experience of sevaral such things happening due to ignorance and past habits:
.... Use translater and explain in native language (You can say that you know technical language to work in office, but don't know day-to-day language. You don't know difference between drag, pull, take along, etc).
.... If you have any cultural example, explaining up to what level it is acceptable in your society.
You must understand that under law of land, the way happening has been explained to police is serious offence. So work around explanation based on language gap, cultural gap, traditions gaps, etc. to minimize its impact. Show your preparedness to accept bridging of gaps to meet the law of land.

Thanks Belmont for support, as explained in other thread for some guy who is beating me or people like us, it's a mistake/accident. It can happen with ones mistake or without mistake (Car accident).. Some one get caught and some one don't... as example I knew many people who steal/use office supplies in the company they work...

There are no bills being discussed. House as well as senate are on recess and will convine after Sept 10th. After it reconvenes, between 10th sept and Oct 8th - it has a lot of tasks at hand, and no apetite for any big and controversial issues like immigration. Mid term elections are in early nov and nobody wants controversial bills debated just before that. Morover it has been made clear that GOP does not want any immigration bills except "fencing the border". Democrats do not have required votes for cloture.
So, nothing is going to happen on the immigration front- legislatively untill after nov elections. Attitudes towards this issue will change and more GOP Lawmakers wil favor talking about this after. It will be a different ball-game depending on who keeps the majority. In the lame-duck there might be a chance.

I have not tried it myself, but a couple members did and it worked. I also know about folks receiving EADs after filing lawsuits. There is still rule of the law in this country. Try follow my instructions and see the results.
I was at USCIS this morning, followed every thing you suggested. My IO officer was actually a desi guy.
1) They completely refused to look at the received date, I had my EAD (765) receipt, but the IO said he only cares about the receipt date. I even has the print out from USCIS.gov in which they have mentioned that they will honor the date on which applications were received in the mail room but he did not budge. His argument was " That update is in the over all scheme of things, but for EAD they have specific instruction to follow only the date they entered the data in the system"
2) I was not allowed to see a supervisor, the IO did talk to the supervisor but did not let me see her.

Also we cannot deny that Corporations also reason for putting the h1b restrictions. Why Indian consulting companies applying thousands of H1b in one day? I doubt usage of number h1bs are atleast 50% They were also wasting lot of h1bs just by applying and staying in India waiting for Job opportunity materialise but here many companies could not get persons for many projects. Some solution is needed for this issue for proper utilization of H1bs. Corporations could have suggested some solution for this if they are really responsible.
According to lot of estimates 100k new jobs are created and if we include retiring people and rotating people real new requirement will be 150k persons including H1b and L1. H1b numbers(115-180K) in the Senate bill are fine according to Industry estimates if industry is just using for new jobs and vacancies of old jobs without replacing current workers. It is too much restrictive in the bill but someone has to suggest alternative solution for the current problems. If they just remove the restrictions when they open new H1b cap will be reached within few days again corporations lobby for more H1bs.
I'm surprised that everybody in this thread got so scared of the language in a stupid bill and stopped thinking how clever Indians are in finding loopholes. I hate when all the extra-ordinary people think in the same direction. To start with, is it possible that these jokers will pass anything agaist the will of big techs like microsoft, intel, csco, think again? even if they did to make average(stupid) Joe happy, they wil keep loopholes making the law irrelevent. e.g. H1 quota limited but L1 unlimited. businesses more than 50 emps can not have more than 50% H1Bs, what do u think big desi consulting cos are in trouble? they will simply 10 more companies each having 49 people.
Other direction: when i came to US in '99 from SEEPZ, my US salary(in Rupees) was 12 times my indian salary, now it's just 2 times. Indian salaries are increasing 10-20% every year, and Dollar is going down (down 20% in 6 years, 40% including indian inflation), very soon there will be no advantage in coming over here, and you are worrying about future H1s having trouble getting GC?

The reason I suggested sending in our credentials is beacuse the key in reverse brain drain is also "brain" along with "drain".
If we send in copies of our credentials (respectfully, in a nice package ) along with a stopper it will show them what they are going to loose.
Even to hard core right wingers it will show them that even if they neglect the human factor (caused by the in ordinately long delays) they cannot neglect the intellectual factor..

- Stop American jobs from off-shoring : use a stopper
- Stop reverse brain "drain" from America to keep America competitive : use stopper

where they mention that 100K high skilled immigrants have left US to go back to India, China and other countries.
