B2 is tourist visa. Parents are not tourist.
We are here because of our good parents. Forgetting them is most disrespect we do in life.
If we don't care our parents, when we become older(parents) how will our kids will care us?.
Research are proving...if we live together as family like in olden days...many health issues will disappear...everybody will be happy, no stress.
We need to go back to older family system. Now we are proving...green is better. food is medicine. So why not staying together with parents is not good?. This lead us to have a strong long lasting life.
Very loving and affectionate humanitarian thoughts..I fully support this cause.
It is not only a moral obligation, but also the Dharma or duty to protect and serve our parents in their sage and elderly age. Gratefulness is a virtue. Shared living and togetherness improves mental health, and builds capacity and strength to face life. Also, One doesnot have to depend on alcohol, antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs for escaping stress - instead can depend on parents for comfort, emotional stability and love.
Interestingly when you say that research proves food is medicine, these days modern medicine including scientists from Top research universities and labs are turning back to Ayurveda to change the composition of Immune system and blood in body - to fight against HIV, TB and other diseases (google it up, you will find many programs including holistic approaches) - going back the time tested herbal way, that has been validated for over 5000 years.
Ofcourse, the Irony is that we cannot request for amendment of law to provide for these allowance, unless we are citizens, but I am sure if many citizens and others in other visa categories like us, could possibly request for extended stay for an year or two atleast on a temp basis for parents. May be it will get noticed if we opt to pay an Alluring Premium fee that can convert this option in to economic gains for USCIS and American firms (Insurance etc) , which can help to gain the required traction and optimum action.

I've been hearing a lot of banter about the L1 Vs H1-B the fact remains both these categories are badly abused, it doesnt matter who is the bigger evil. I would tend to agree that L1 has a worse abuse rate however.
The issue however is that these so called "high skilled" visas arent high skilled anymore. If you closely look at the people coming in I would bet a majority of them who came during the dot com era didnt even have basic engineering degrees , and a huge majority of those coming in now have these degrees but from institutions which are completely crappy, the college plays a big role in framing who you are and yeah people can argue "there are bright students" in these colleges, but they are just plain minimal at best. So bottomline a majority of these are not highly skilled or talented people.
When the H1-B was conceived it was supposed to pave its way really skilled engineers with excellent credentials and it is not the case anymore, if you are going to tell me things like QA and Data Warehousing need mind boggling skills I think I can just have a good laugh at it. The local citizens are very much capable of executing on them. These jobs account for a huge majority of the software based jobs in the US, yes this is not the only category for H1-B jobs but software accounts for a big chunk.
I think of the H1-B visa as something analogous to getting into the best schools in India or the best schools out here, you cannot be crappy and get admitted to those schools, neither can you pay shit loads of money and get admitted, and this is what is happening. Consultants bringing in people from wherever charging them a huge sum of money filing for their H1-B and then looking out for a job for them, the only skill here is the consultants skill in finding the person a job :-). The new trend is the students with masters degrees from here getting placed in a job which is completely against what they specialised in, if a student after his/her masters doesnt find a job its either his badluck or he just wasnt good enough even after a masters and just isnt ineligible and these consultants have found a way to place the inept students as well which sucks at best. I do not agree with the notion of good consultants, every consultant abuses the employment based Visa system, and I am for a cap on L1-B visa's or a limit thats decided by the number of employees a firm employs in the US.
So unless USCIS see's a way of somehow screening out the best and the brightest and weed out these consultants so only the best and brightest are brought in, I can vouch that a majority of the American Technology companies (Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm etal) do not abuse the H1-B system neither do they undercut wages. In the end they fail to meet their hiring needs since the system is flooded with so may people who do not deserve to get in.

Thanks for your advise and i agree with your thoughts.
I thought of leaving this company several times, but I am working in this company for 6 years and the only company I worked after coming to USA. I invested so much for this company, like working beyond work hours, working in the weekends, making up the project deadlines for the incompetitive colleagues etc. etc. and now just waiting for my Green Card. There were so many times I thought if I get my Green Card I am going to leave this moment. Years passing by and with this retrogression thing, there is very little hope of getting it soon...
The positive thing is, my direct supervisor is very nice and I can voice my opinion and she understands me and completely supports me. I am just praying god that I should keep working for her till I get the GC.
I would only say "Hang On", or move on if you can. A lot of people in same situations, never want to discuss issues openly.
Patience does help, and maybe all the good is stored for future.
Most important is how you deal with stress associated with racial slurs, difference in treatment, and all the above issues. This has direct impact on health and many people in these conditions are victims of stress.
The h1b - GC situation is well known to everyone and they know you are indentured, some managers are called problem solvers (they pretend to hear ur voice, help you from their side and get the work done and try to ease pressure off you if they have an option), whereas some managers are called problem creators (they add additional pressure on you and make u miserable so that they get the work done). The reason companies support their American workers who involve in racial slurs is to avoid issues. It is easy to kick you out and blame you rather than catering to ur problem.

they will only ask you at the interview.
some of us are working under very abusive circumstances and i'm sure the interviewer will understand your reasons for leaving earlier.
i think the whole fraud/stay 6 months thing is just another ploy for some employers to keep using some of us for longer.

Eb2 have never moved beyond may 2004.. so until it goes past that.. these movements are not really worth anything.. it has to overcome that resistance.. then maybe 2005 will be a reality

Guys who r going 2 get married after August 17th and have their PD after Dec 2006 and have atleast 2 years of H1-B period left!!Y apply 485 now and wait for atleast 3 to 4 years to apply your spouses. The way I see it you can only apply your spouse's 485 when the PD becomes current again!!Instead y not wait 3 to 4 years and apply simultaneously!!Atleast give the guys who have older PD's a break!!

Thanks! That's helpful... from what you say, sounds like PD is still quite important. RD comes into the picture only after the PD becomes current. However, if a range of PD's are current, then they would sort those by RD and not by PD.
For eg, if they move the dates forward by a year, and Jan 04 and Jan 05 are both now current, a person with PD of Jan 05 but an earlier RD would still get processed prior to an application with PD Jan 04 and a later RD (according to the FIFO principle)...

Does any of you trade in Indian shares? If so, did you have to open the PIS NRE account to do trading in Indian shares ? I heard that NRI from USA can not use the normal demat account to do the trading in secondary market in India.

Trust me my friend, I have seen it happen all the time, from large Telecom firm to Govt., its always there, most of the consultants just doesn't come to know about it, but the cut for the managers is there in some form, almost always. Why do each manager has a specific vendor through whom they want to hire most of the time? What else is the reason for the client to pay the consulting company $180/hr but they won't give 'valueablehurdle' anything more than $50-60/hr?
On a different note, now that NSG approved the waiver, most desi uncles, some of them are also owners of desi consulting companies will claim that they are the father of Nuclear deal. These bastards (sorry for my french) always oppose any GC fix and they tell their favorite congressman/senator (each has atleast one favorite politician for whom they do fund raisers) that gc backlog is not an important issue for the community. India Abroad, Times of India, rediff and other desi portals/newspapers will write 'Oliver North' style stories about these desi uncles knowing well that companies like GE etc put their weight behind the deal as it will create commerce to commerce over $20 billion/yr. But desi uncles/orgs will not stop claiming to be the father of nuclear deal. The fact is, most of these desi uncles made noise not because they wanted to do something for their country of birth, they are doing it because they think that if the nuclear deal passes, they can play middle man for US companies to sell the technology/material to Indian companies/govt. Most of the so called 'united voice of Indian-Americans on the Hill' organization's goal is to make big bucks by playing 'middle man' for companies wanting to sell technology to India. And as always, just as 'valuablehurdle''s client (paying $180/hr) Indian govt. will pay double the cost. These desi companies have squeezed blood of people waiting for gc, but now they think its time to move on to play big game with the big boys.
